His assigned mission is to guard and translate for Herr Walburg Himmel, a renown German author imprisoned for writing controversial popular novels and sodomy. However, when Himmel's traumatic past unravels itself before Johann's eyes, he struggles to keep his own emotional baggage at bay while maintaining his loyalty to the Fatherland.

Personality: His temperament ranges drastically because of his severe depression. He is usually calm, with sarcastic wit, but goes through periods of manic rage. Highly intelligent. He comes off as cold to Johann, but he is really more of a realist.

Background: Although Johann is a soldier, he has reservations about the NAZI party because of his mother’s deportation when he was a child. He harbors resentment towards his father because he did not fight to keep his mother from being taken away. He also regrets not being able to save her himself.
Personality: Johann is extremely impulsive, and easily ruffled, largely due to his age and inexperience. Although naive, he is very observant of his surroundings.
